Which version of the ISO 3166-1 (Country code) list should be used in GS1 XML standards – numeric or alphanumeric?

Modified on Mon, 2 Sep at 7:46 AM

The ISO 3166-1 is the standard list of codes denoting the names of countries. The country names can be represented in three ways: two letter alpha code, three letter alpha code or three digit numeric code.

For example: Albania can be represented as AL, ALB or 008
In GS1 XML standard all these code representations are allowed. The choice is determined by implementation and should be made by the users, based on their business practice.
